Star and the Tramp...

Aw. Bleach Dub.

After the mountain of crap that was Spiderman 3, you are a balm to my soul. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but I didn't cringe very much through The Star and the Tramp, and that's all I can really ask for, isn't it? Chibi-Rukia's VA was actually cute. Though, I gotta say that English-Renji kinda lacked the emotion of Japanese-Renji. His "RUKIA!!!" didn't pack the same punch. Plus, having "Gotei 13" replaced with "Thirteen Court Guardians" is kinda hard to get used to.

But, eh. As far as dubs go, I still give this one an A-. But watching it reminded me that I really want Renji to get some kind of lovin' before Bleach ends. Rukia's not in love with him. "Brother box" and all. I accept that, because IchiRuki is my OTP. However, a "yeah, I kinda maybe had feelings for you once" would suffice to console me that the poor boy hasn't really been wasting over half a century for absolutely nothing. *Pets Renji*

Poor Renji. I don't think she's in love with him and I don't think she ever was (though I could see the whole childhood sweethearts first kiss that didn't exactly mean anything heavy thing.) The whole Kaien thing indicates to me that, while she obviously still cared for and missed Renji, she wasn't having the romantic feelings that would get her hung up on him like he was. I don't know, it's late, ask me tomorrow and I can maybe explain my feelings on this better.

I'm used to the translation "a star and a stray dog," so "the star and the tramp" makes me think of Lady and the Tramp. Given Renji's dog thing, that's probably not inappropriate.

*Sigh* Perpetual brother box. Damn it. I don't think she was ever in love with him either, but it's so hard to accept that he's been faithfully and pointlessly pining for 50 years. Jesus, Renji!

Hehe. Not inappropriate at all. ;)

Even if she does dig his chili, it'd have to be after the war, because aside from the fact that they don't have a lot of time for socializing right now...whether you call it romantic or not, Ichigo just has her attention now in a way Renji does not. And if she were really in love with him, she probably wouldn't be able to compartmentalize her feelings that way.

I think the brother thing actually makes it better for the pining, because it's one thing to be all loserly and pine after a lost love for decades, another entirely understandable thing to miss your best friend and family for all that time.

Dig his chili? Hehe...

"...because it's one thing to be all loserly and pine after a lost love for decades..."

LOL! Aw, Renji. But I definitely like your point.
