Writer's Block: Little Women

Jo. A thousand times Jo.
I wanted to be Jo when I was little, and I still want to be Jo. She was a feminist before her time; she was a reader and a writer; she was independent and opinionated; she was spunky, yet selfless; she was creative and artistic (in a literary and theatrical sense); she was the heart of her family; and she was always interesting. The only thing I didn't like about Jo was that she didn't love Laurie in the way that I wanted her to. Other than that, she was fantastic.
Amy, on the other hand, will always be one of my least beloved characters of all time. I hate Amy. I've always hated Amy, from her first appearance on the page to her last scene in the latest movie version. Amy pushes all of my buttons. She pushes my buttons because I am an older sister with no patience for whining younger sisters. Also, because, as a writer, I fully identified with Jo's rage and cheered on her violent retaliation when Amy burned Jo's writings. She didn't even do it to me, but I'll never forgive her for that. I'll never forgive her for marrying Laurie either, but I am admittedly a life-long Jo/Laurie shipper.
I never know what to do with people who like Amy or Amy/Laurie. Why? I don't think Amy had more fun. If Jo was shown as raging more often, then it was because she was passionate about things, and the world wasn't necessarily ready for someone like her yet. Amy was passionate about nothing but herself, yet she received everything that should have been Jo's (Laurie and the trip to Europe) when she deserved none of it.
Yes, I clearly feel an irrational investment in Little Women. :P
