This would have been up hours ago, but I've been engaged in an epic battle with LJ's html codes. Hence the "frustrated" mood icon.

Well, y'all, somebody had to write it. I've waited years since Chapter 266, and no one else (that I know of) has attempted the big, epic AU what-if of Aaroniero actually being Kaien. It started out as an urge to finish a ficlet that has been wasting away on my laptop and has so far surpassed over 16,000 words and had to be divided into parts to fit on lj.

Huzzah! At 32 pages and just short of 12,000 words, the damn thing is finally finished. And it's the longest FE chapter I've written in years.

Here be the latest chapter of Forgivable Expectations:

Chapter 9: Deadlock.

Summary: Deadlock: a standstill resulting from the opposition of two unrelenting forces or factions. Pansy has to lose part of herself in order to find herself again.

Pansy and Padma finally have their confrontation. Yes, indeed.

EDIT: Just to be clear, this is not the final chapter of FE. It's just the latest. ^^;

Had a random conversation with an aging hippie musician in Starbucks today. The experience was charmingly disconcerting, like an organic core inside a mass consumerism peel. If that makes any sense.

I feel like this is the first time in ages I've been free to take a breath. So, naturally, I'm going to use this time to attempt finishing FE 9 once and for all. In order to speed up the process, I think I'm going to cut a large section devoted to Millicent/Pansy power struggles and save it for the next chapter. As of now, the chapter is over 20 pages long. That seems pretty long until I remember the days of forty-page chapters. Oye vey. There's an intense confrontation between Pansy and Padma in this chapter that I've been wanting to write for years now, and it'll be awesome to finally unload it on y'all. Really, this is a fairly intense chapter overall, but I don't think anyone familiar with my writing can be surprised. Even my fluff is angst-laced. ;)

I hope you all have a great holiday!

P.S: I don't really have anything to offer in terms of Heroes meta this week. The episode was good and all, but my notes on it pretty much amounted to three lines. I guess the episode didn't inspire anything from me other than: MR. MUGGLES IS BACK, SADFACE CAUSE OF NO LYLE, and OMG PETER WATCHING NATHAN SLEEP. That pretty much covers it.

Eee! My Simon/Monty fic, The Lost Ones, got nominated for "Best Epic" at The Heroes Slash Fanfiction Awards: Summer 2009. Anyone not already participating should check out that huge plethora of awesome Heroes fic.

I haven't had a fic nominated for anything since OA, and that was a very, very long time ago, my friends. I don't have a chance in hell of winning, but I'm all a-giddy at being in the same category as [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]-- two of my favorite fic authors. That would be honor enough, but I'm also nominated alongside anansie_s's Wayfarer, which is one of my favorite Nathan/Peter fics.

Yay! This is an occasion to break out the dancing adipose icon!

This fic is crazy long, so I had to divide it into two parts.

Do your eyes deceive you? No! This is indeed an update of my ridiculously long-term WIP, Forgivable Expectations!

A cruel joke, you say? No! Not this time!

Title: Forgivable Expectations
Fandom: Harry Potter
Genre: Romance/Drama
Rating: T
Pairings: Draco/Pansy, Dean/Pansy
Summary: Being a Slytherin is tough work these days. With the war brewing around her, Pansy has to deal with inner-house politics, unexpected rivals, and an undesired attraction to Dean Thomas. Includes an artistic Snape and a French Draco.

Indeed, here is Chapter 8: The Surest is Cowardice.

I swear, one of these days, I'm going to go back and edit up all of the previous seven chapters. That day is not this day! Keep that in mind, potential new readers. I started this baby years ago, and I'd like to think that my writing has improved by leaps and bounds. There were originally bucket loads worth of more plot planned for this fic, but the only hope for finally finishing this fic off was to cut it down. Hopefully, I'll be finished with it in its entirely within one to two more chapters. *Crosses fingers*

Awesome Quote Courtesy of Maggie (from the original Beauty and the Beast): "If I were intelligent," said the beast, "I would pay you a great compliment to thank you. But I am so stupid that all I can say is that I am very much obliged." *Snerk*

Gakked from [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], The Fanfic-Writer's Meme:

1. Which is your favorite fic?

...time for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse...

I love this one from top to bottom. I genuinely feel that the dialogue is spot-on for my Draco and Pansy (mine, not Rowling's, since I highly doubt she would ever allow Pansy a single line of witty repartee) and everything was portrayed exactly as I wanted it to be. I'm very proud of that one, and it went through countless revisions to polish it up before I posted it.

2. Which is your best-received fic?

Hmn. I suppose that would be Outward Appearances, since I had over 1500 reviews for it before ff.net deleted it, and there's more at its various other homes. Lily/James fandom is generous with the feedback. ^_^ On the Draco/Pansy side, Breath in Idleness probably received the most love as a one-shot, but Forgivable Expectations still has a decently sized following even after so much time in hiatus.

3. Which is your worst-received fic?

That would probably be Protege. It actually got "niffled" or recced at FictionAlley, but even the niffler was like, "Yeah, this fic has been ignored by fandom." *FacePalm* But it's to be expected because this one is kind of out there. I was playing around with a lot of vague, dark concepts that made some people go O_o.

4. Which is your angsty-est fic?

Oooh, that one's hard! Everything I write is angsty! I know that Nicole will never forgive me for writing Dimenticata (the ring bit, in particular, upset her). But At the End of the World probably takes the prize. Not only did I throw Pansy into Azkaban but I also gave her agoraphobia and stuck her in the middle of an ongoing battle in an open field. Not to mention that, erm, ending. Definitely my most melodramatic.

5. Which is your funniest fic?

Overall, none of my fics are comedic. XD Maybe Breath in Idleness for domestic confusion?

6. Smuttiest?

Time for Decisions again. That one contains the most graphic sex scene I've ever written. Yup. Though, A Woman, but No Angel has a somewhat-graphic sex scene, too, between Lily and James towards the end.

7. Fluffiest?

Breath in Idleness. No one dies! Or has psychological trauma! That's fluffy, right?

8. Have you ever made someone cry with a fic?

Frequently. XD

9. Which fic frustrates you the most?

Outward Appearances. I have such a love-hate relationship with it that usually tips more towards hate, but it was my earliest and most popular fic ever so that means something. I'm actually pretty proud of the second half of it, but it's that horrible (and now cliched) premise that makes up the first half that tortures me in the night.

10. Which fic was the most fun to write?

Overall? None. Writing for me is like giving birth. It's all pain and mess until the final product is out and then I get to bask in the creation later.

11. Who is your favorite OC you've ever created?

Arabella in OA. I love that character so much that she keeps popping up in various incarnations in my original work. She was so fun and interesting, plus she had all of those witty quips to foil Lily that were tons of fun to write. I liked Mundungus, too (who does not resembles that actual Mundungus Fletcher in any way, but I did write him two years before Book 5 came out).

12. Are you better at one-shot or mulit-part?

One-shots. Clearly, since it takes me lifetimes to update my multi-parts.

13. What character do you think you're the best at portraying?

Pansy, obviously, since she stars in all but three of my completed fics (and a few uncompleted ones, too); however, I've gotten too set into writing her, so it's been a challenge writing my current heroine (who is nothing like Pansy).

14. What character(s) is the most difficult to portray?

Crabbe and Goyle. They usually get the shaft in my fics and not because I dislike them (Well, Crabbe's getting the stink eye after Book 7, but I digress), but because it's difficult to work with Rowling's two-dimensional characters. Make Crabbe and Goyle too intelligent and they're OOC. Make them too stupid and shallow and you're just feeding into Rowling's bullshit black-and-white portrayal. It's hard to find a satisfying balance.

Totally random, but I just re-read Like a Balloon Caught in a Tempest, and I'm finding it very hard to believe that I actually wrote it, and for the sole reason that I don't remember any of it. Maybe it's because I usually obsess over my fics for months (years) before I ever post them, and I didn't do that with this one-shot. The inspiration came out of nowhere (I mean, Tonks/Snape? Really?), and I spontaneously wrote it right up and submitted it for a challenge. I never do that. The closest I came for writing and finishing something that quickly was Breath In Idleness, which I wrote over the weekend while Shala was visiting for the PoA movie. Oddly enough, I think those are two of my better fics. XD But there are some good Snape lines in Balloon that I wish I remembered writing.

I'm suddenly feeling the urge to write fic again, and that's bad news for my novel-in-progress. Then again, maybe I'm just excited about the new!Pansy.

In other news...

I got a new job! I'm going to be a research assistant for the Early Modern department's ballad archive here on campus. I still have to get an internship for my Editing minor, but this is good for the meantime.

Oh, I just adore torturing my favorite characters.

Bwahaha!!! I lure you in with fluffy Lily/James, only to bombard you with things like Dimenticata and Protégé. What can I say? I have a penchant for the disturbed.
