OMG, I am VINDICATED!

Dogs 101, a show on Animal Planet, has officially confirmed what I have long suspected: Shih-Tzus are the hardest dog to train because it takes a zillion times for commands to actually register. You see? It's not MY fault my dogs are spoiled brats with selective approaches to training. Well, the spoiled part is, I guess, but all those months of banging my head against the wall because Stanzi would just not potty train? Not my fault, damn it, because my dogs are dumb. Purebred, inbred dumb. Except when they're selectively smart. Most of the time, I'm positive that they're messing with me.

But it's not my fault.

So there. ;)

Stanzi has a new sibling!

Meet Sophia Lavinia-- a.k.a Sophie. A.k.a Stanzi II: The Girl Version. They're full biological siblings, and they seem to share the same personality. It's hilarious, and she brings back all the memories of when Stanzi was a puppy (because they look and act exactly the same-- and because it was just a few months ago that he was one). The main difference? Sophie is a cuddler! Unlike Stanzi, who puts up with it for only so long before he tires of humoring the silly humans. If I had gotten them in the reverse order, they soooo would have been named Wolfie and Stanzi.

Sophie used to live with my cousins, but they weren't expecting all the effort required for a Shih-tzu puppy. I tell people that they're remarkably similar to babies (up to and including absurd wake-up times), but they always look at me like, "Okay, crazy dog-lady." I guess you have to have one to know. I know certain former roommates of mine who know the deal, huh? ;)

I got into San Francisco State University's grad program. It's tempting, but I know that I don't really want to go that far north. Too cold and windy. Nonetheless, it feels pretty cool. :)

Stanzi and I took the weekend off more or less and hung out in the Inland Empire. Saw Kristi and Shala graduate, which made me both insanely proud as well as jealous. My own graduation is over a month away, damn it all. I'm ready to be done already.

Celebrated Kyle's birthday, and I bought him the Bleach: Shattered Sword game for the Wii. I kick ass as Rukia. ;) I wish I could see her fight like that in the manga. But it's hilarious how ridiculous the "story" is. Oh, man.

Saw a glimpse of my future strifes in Stanzi's behavior at his "grandma's" house. My mother spoils him worse than I do, so I saw all of my efforts to train him in various things go out the window. It's going to be the same way when I have human children. I'll get to be the bad guy, while my mother is the one holding the cookies and sanctuary from yours truly. *Sigh*

I'm so tired. So very tired.

I'm working two internships, and they're for rival newspapers. Neither newspaper knows about the other, and it makes me laugh to see my articles printed in both the same week. Bwahaha.

My third job is being a mommy to Stanzi. I swear that having this puppy is like having adopted a baby. I haven't slept properly in a week because he won't let me. He goes to bed around ten, which is when I seem to be going to bed, too, these days, but he never lets me sleep in past seven. He has a ridiculous, spastic amount of energy that early, so we go on a morning walk straight to Starbucks. He's a full-time job, and we're having a hell of a time getting him to do his business on the puppy pads instead of the carpet. All of this aside, I adore the little scamp.

Oh. Speaking of our walks... Stanzi clearly inspires insanity in everyone he encounters. I swear to you that we cannot go ten feet without getting stopped by someone on the street who wants to coo over him. The roommates and I took him downtown over the weekend, thinking that his presence wouldn't be a big deal since "downtown Santa Barbara" is synonymous with "WASPS and their tiny, yappy dogs." We were wrong. So very wrong. WE WERE MOBBED. We paused for a moment, and people converged on us from all sides at once. A group of Japanese tourists took pictures with him. It took us forever to go down one block because people kept stopping us. It was like being in the presence of a rock star. All this attention to Stanzi was cute at first, but I'm already kind of sick of all these people. I've started avoiding people's eyes as we pass, hoping that they won't actually approach and bother us. It's ridiculous. I fully applaud the one employee at Panda Express who had the balls to politely suggest to me that I leave the puppy outside next time, because I hate how people just bring their dogs into restaurants as if it's not a place where people eat their food. But yes, I did it that one time (at least half to see if I could get away with it). Never said I wasn't a hypocrite. ;)

But really, who could blame them when I've adopted an ewok?

Crap, crap, crap.

My first interview with a musician and I fuck it up immediately.

I wasn't expecting her to contact me right away, so I wasn't prepared. I hadn't listened to her music or researched her background. Terribly embarrassing. I know I got enough to write something decent, but it would have been a thousand times better on my nerves if I had a prepared list of questions and if I hadn't babbled for two minutes on how we both like ABBA.

I am soooo not cut out to be a journalist, even if it's the lowest rank of journalist in existence. I really just wanted to be a vampire-pale editing intern. *FacePalm*

In happier news, I'm a new mommy! Of an itty, bitty shih tzu puppy. Because we are ridiculous, my roommates and I came up with the name Stanislav (Stanzi for short). I wanted a really pompous, big name because the dog is so small, and it makes me laugh. He doesn't live with us yet, but my father will be delivering him in a few weeks. Yay, Stanzi! Now I shall set myself to the task of figuring out how the hell we're going to puppy-proof this place...
