Gossip Girl...

So, I watched the Gossip Girl premiere. Yes, I did. Why? Because I read a few of the books. No, it's true. I admit it. I'm sure I had a good reason at the time. Like, maybe I was desperate for something- you know, anything- to read, and maybe I only had, like, five minutes to grab a book- any book- before being forcibly dragged from the bookstore. You know, something like that.

Anyway. I watched the premiere to see how they adapted the books into a television show. The result? It's the O.C. and almost to a disturbing degree. At Best Week Ever, the reviewer didn't even watch it and he got the show's set-up completely on the nail:

If you missed it, and you know, care, the only difference between the show and the books is that Serena actually has a soul and Jenny no longer has boobs. That's pretty much it.

I can't believe you watched it. I absolutely refused to read any of those books and then they decided to make a show. I'll be surprised if it lasts. I didn't have to watch it to know it was the OC in disguise. Good to know I AM a genius.

I don't know. Judging from the response I've seen and the strange phenomenon that is O.C. obsession, it might actually make it. When people start using the words "guilty pleasure" at every opportunity, you know something is almost guaranteed at least three seasons before people start to remember that they don't really care.
